Olde Town Arvada's Gathering Places Are Changing Hands This Fall

"What started as a winery became a gathering place, for birthdays and anniversaries, for first dates and last toasts, for Tuesday-night regulars who became some of our closest friends." That was Kristin Chayer of Silver Vines Winery, talking to the Arvada Press about the place she and her husband Jeff have run on Grandview Avenue. After 15 years in Olde Town, the winery closes at the end of 2026.

Taken alone, that's a sad local business story. Put it next to everything else going on within a few blocks and a pattern shows up. Two of Olde Town's longtime places for a drink or dinner are gone or going this year. The businesses replacing them are built around reading, flowers, classes and daytime coffee. For the next few months the old places and the new ones are both on the calendar, and that window closes in December.

Two long runs end in the same year

The first loss came in March. A fire on March 3 badly damaged 303 Ramen's building at 5725 Yukon Street, where the restaurant had been since 2017. Arvada firefighters found asbestos during remediation, and the building's owner, who had leased the space to owner Natenapa Bunkrong, put the property up for sale.

The restaurant survived. 303 Ramen reopened on Sept. 11 at 8025 Sheridan Boulevard in northeast Arvada, less than five miles from the old Yukon Street address. Bunkrong told the Arvada Press that some menu items will change. Favorites regulars often mention, including the panang curry ramen, shio ramen, duck cheese wontons and Thai iced tea, are staying, and the focus will be mostly ramen and Japanese food. The new location is open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.

One thing to know before you walk over: the Olde Town Arvada food directory still lists 303 Ramen at Yukon Street. That entry is out of date. The September Arvada Press report names no new tenant for the Yukon Street building.

Silver Vines announced its closure on Facebook on June 29. Brothers Danny and Jeff Chayer opened the winery at 7509 Grandview Avenue in December 2011. Jeff and Kristin later took it over. The Arvada tasting room stays open through December, and the Boulder tasting room was set to close in late summer or early fall.

So Olde Town is losing an evening wine room and a dinner spot it has had for nearly a decade, both in the same calendar year.

What is moving into the gap

The new arrivals are a different kind of business.

TeeLee Floral and Events moved from an event-florist operation based in Golden to a retail storefront at 5613 Olde Wadsworth Boulevard. When the Arvada Press checked in August, it was open and selling bouquets and home goods, and it was already holding classes.

The bigger addition is still on the way. My Book Cellar is a bookstore, café and bar going into the historic Smith-Houston House at 5715 Upham Street. Founders Kim Beaumund and Kate Otto both live in Olde Town. They started the project after thinking about how few third spaces the historic district has. Otto put the goal plainly in the Press: "in a quiet setting, that's not a bar. If you want to come here and just read by yourself and enjoy a cup of tea, that's the place for you. Or if you want to meet your friends, if you want to have a book club here and have a glass of wine, this is the space for you."

The published plans show what kind of place it will be:

  • Books: more than 3,000 new titles, plus a kids' section with its own decor
  • Food and drink: a full coffee bar, local wines, liquors and beers, pastries, charcuterie boards and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Events: storytimes, book releases, book clubs, writing workshops, open mics and "crafternoons"
  • Planned hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday

Those hours open at 7 a.m. on weekdays and close by 8 p.m. even on Saturdays. That's the clearest sign of the shift. Silver Vines and 303 Ramen were places people went at night. My Book Cellar is planned around mornings, afternoons and early evenings.

The founders also chose to sell only new books, so they complement Book Cranny, the new-and-used bookstore nearby, and the Olde Town branch of the Jeffco Public Library rather than compete with them.

The timing is still open. In September the owners said they had gotten permit comments from the city and were waiting on their resubmittal. The Press quoted Otto saying "sometime before the holidays." The shop's own site now says "Coming Winter 2026." Neither gives a firm date, so treat any opening day you hear as tentative until the shop announces it at mybookcellarco.com.

The overlap window, on the calendar

For now, My Book Cellar is building its audience outside its own building. Its event calendar lists storytimes at Tutu School Arvada, 5782 Yukon Street, on Friday, Oct. 9 and Friday, Oct. 23. The founders have also mentioned pop-ups at Second Saturdays and storytimes at Mad Macks Brewery.

Silver Vines, meanwhile, is still running its regular schedule. Its calendar lists the Monday Gypsy Jazz Jam on Oct. 5 and live music from Gregg Green on Oct. 9. None of these are billed as farewell events. They're the regular programming that built the place.

Put together, the next three months in and around Olde Town look like this:

  1. Oct. 5: Monday Gypsy Jazz Jam at Silver Vines
  2. Oct. 9: My Book Cellar storytime at Tutu School, and Gregg Green at Silver Vines on the same evening
  3. Oct. 9 to 11: Freedom Street Social Fall Fest Weekend, with live music, brunch and bingo, a petting zoo, splatter-painting and a Broncos watch party
  4. Oct. 10: Arvada Gardeners' 4th Annual Pumpkin Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9195 W. 57th Ave., with garden tours, cider and a pumpkin patch
  5. Oct. 15: Olde Town Haunts Tour of Arvada with Marmalade Lounge, 7 to 9 p.m.
  6. Oct. 17 and 18: Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair, free, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Olde Town Square and along Olde Wadsworth, Grandview and 57th avenues, with more than 100 artisans promoted
  7. Oct. 23: Second My Book Cellar storytime at Tutu School
  8. Oct. 30: Trick or Treat Street in Olde Town, 5 to 7 p.m.
  9. Dec. 6: Silver Vines 15th Anniversary Party, 2 to 6 p.m.

The Jackalope weekend lands right on top of this story. The fair runs along Grandview Avenue, the same street as Silver Vines, so the winery's last October falls on one of Olde Town's busiest weekends of the year.

Trick or Treat Street is the only upcoming event on the Historic Olde Town Arvada events page right now. After Oct. 30, the anniversary party is the next fixed date in the district.

Just outside the district

A few fall plans sit a short drive from Olde Town and fit the same unhurried pace.

The Arvada Center is marking its own 50 years. pARTy: Celebrating 50 Years and Rigsby Revisited: 50 Years Later are on view through Nov. 8, and Barefoot in the Park runs through Nov. 1. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens Nov. 20 and runs through Jan. 3, 2027.

Majestic View Nature Center, 7030 Garrison St., hosts Astronomy Night on Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. It also has a free Halloween Nature Playdate on Oct. 31 from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 2 to 12, and costumes are encouraged.

What December changes on Grandview

Once Silver Vines closes, 7509 Grandview Avenue will join 5725 Yukon Street as a second longtime Olde Town address in transition. The closure announcement says nothing about what follows the winery. The September report on 303 Ramen describes the Yukon Street building only as listed for sale. The Smith-Houston House is the opening most likely to come next, and it depends on a permit resubmittal still under city review. For anyone who has spent a Tuesday at Silver Vines or a winter night over panang curry ramen on Yukon, the next twelve weeks are the last time both kinds of Olde Town are on the calendar together.

Olde Town Arvada is my kind of neighborhood: the value is in the specific blocks, the specific storefronts and what's planned for them. If you own nearby and wonder how this year's changes along Grandview and Olde Wadsworth affect what your home is worth, Keely Hawk can put together a free home valuation built on this market, or give you access to private listings in and around the historic district.
